Israel’s holocaust in Gaza
It’s ironic that Jews suffered genocide at the hands of the Nazis in the 1930’s and 40’s and now many of the descendants of those who escaped or were rescued or who lived elsewhere at that time have since emigrated to Israel and have been committing a genocide of their own against the Palestinians, especially now, in Gaza. Israel is deliberately targeting women and children more than men to exterminate the Palestinian population, and despite calls for a ceasefire from many nations around the world and pleas to allow humanitarian aid and medical treatment through to the mainly child and female victims who are literally starving to death, the Israelis refuse. They say they are targeting terrorists but this is false: they have deliberately herded as many women and children as possible into buildings which they said was for the women and children’s “safety” and then proceeded to destroy the buildings. Sounds kind of like the lies the Nazis told the Jews when they herded them into the gas chambers, telling them they were about to be given showers. This has been likened to a psychological phenomenon of “the abused growing up to become the abuser”. Of course, not all abused individuals grow up to become abusers and not all Jews who suffered from Nazi ethnic cleansing have turned into Zionist ethnic cleansers either: of those who do turn into abusers, whether politically or in any other sense, their past is no excuse. They of all people should realise what suffering it causes and to perpetrate the same kind of acts on other people is an insult to the name of all the survivors who do not commit or support the same acts. You would expect them of all people to be campaigning to make sure that the same thing doesn’t happen to others. And indeed there are survivors of the holocaust and their descendants who campaign against Zionism and the horrors that are being committed for the benefit of Zionist expansionism. Society should learn from history and not allow repetition of its worst evils. To sit back and allow the genocide against the Palestinians is to belittle the values of those who fought against the genocide committed by the Nazis. For British governments to do nothing about the Palestinian plight is to say that world war II veterans, perhaps your father or grandfather, fought or died for nothing, when genocide is today not only ignored but actively facilitated by generous government donations paid for with public tax money to fund the Israeli military and with state-run media refusing to report on the siege of Gaza.
In the last century extreme right-wing Zionists wanted to set up a religious state in order to have political power but the majority of Jews were not interested in moving to or participating in the set-up of such a state; that is until the aftermath of world war II when it was easy to convince the majority of Jews that they needed a country of their own to be safe. And plenty of right-wing Europeans were happy to encourage Jews to move out of their country and into Palestine under the guise of helping them. Blacks, gypsies and gays were also given the same treatment by the Nazis but didn’t migrate to one country and take it over with the excuse that they need it to be safe. Some Blacks in America, despairing of the uphill struggle against racism in the United States, decided the only solution was to give up and move to Africa where their ancestors had originated, even though they themselves had never set foot in Africa before. They didn’t manage to drum up enough support for the idea to take off. Some did emigrate to Africa, but didn’t take over any state in the way that the Zionists had persuaded the Jews to take over Palestine. Guess which Americans gave the black organisation the biggest support and financial contribution for their idea to move to Africa? - the extreme right-wing racist organisation the Ku Klux Klan who were happy to donate to get rid of them. Lord Balfour of Britain helped the Zionist movement create their state and simultaneously reduce the Jewish population in Britain by partitioning Palestine and he gave the biggest bit to the Jews which they renamed Israel, and Israel has ever since been trying to take over what little bit of territory was left for the Palestinians, driving the Palestinians out of their homes, bulldozing many of their homes and killing anyone including children who gets in their way. The occupying Israeli soldiers, when they are bored, shout taunts to children and if the children retaliate or throw stones, the soldiers shoot to kill. There are numerous other acts of cruelty committed by Israeli soldiers towards Palestinian civilians which have been proudly recorded by Zionist historians who condone what is going on even though the Israeli government officially tries to cover up or make excuses for what they are doing. Some Israeli ex-soldiers, ashamed of what they participated in have spoken out and revealed that they were actively encouraged by their seniors in the army to commit atrocities against Palestinian civilians, while their leaders try to claim the reverse, that they did not condone the actions of what they claim was a minority of soldiers.
For too long, western governments with strategic interests in the Middle East have been reluctant to condemn the actions of Israel, and the public, largely misinformed, has been afraid to condemn the actions of Israel lest they be accused of anti-Semitism. The Zionists know this and exploit it. Israel also chooses its timing carefully when it comes to its worst atrocities. Whenever there has been a crisis going on in the western world such as the current economic recession and the west has been pre-occupied with its own problems, Israel has stepped up attacks on the Palestinians, as bad news can more easily be buried at such times. They also took advantage of the anti-Arab sentiment that was about in the West in the aftermath of Sept 11th to step up attacks and bulldoze even more Palestinian homes and murder more civilians knowing that westerners would be less likely to care about atrocities visited on any Arab people at that time, even though Sept 11 was mainly carried out by Saudi Arabians and not Palestinians.
The United Nations have condemned Israel’s actions. The leader of the United Nations has called for a boycott of Israel. The British government’s contribution consists of Prime minister Gordon Brown making a mild plea to Israel for a ceasefire. Barely a slap on the wrist as far as criticism or action is concerned. Britain and America have declared war on other countries for much less. At the very least, economic sanctions should be imposed and the billions of dollars that is donated each year to Israel should be stopped. Scottish trade unions have now launched an official BDS - boycott, divestment and sanctions campaign. It is high time the Scottish Parliament cut cultural ties with Israel and boycotted all Israeli products. Israel fits the definition of an apartheid regime but goes even further than the white South African government did in terms of atrocities and genocide.
Meanwhile, ordinary people in Britain are taking measures to individually boycott Israeli products even if the British government refuses to do anything about it. The Thatcher government refused to impose sanctions against South Africa during apartheid (especially since Thatcher’s own husband had financial interests there) but that didn’t stop individual people from contributing to the downfall of apartheid by boycotting the produce of apartheid. So whether the Brown government imposes sanctions against Israel or not, let it be the duty of every humanitarian citizen in Britain to boycott Israeli goods and Zionist financial institutions. We must stand against genocide and imperialism wherever it occurs. |
